Field Notes

Description:

Subspecies of American Black Bear, endemic to Vancouver Island, BC, Canada.

Habitat:

Rocky beach of Pacific Ocean inlet on Vancouver Island, near Ucluelet. Noisy area near a mill. Also within a few hundred metres of three salmon runs.

Notes:

Scavenging for food at the time of spotting, turning over the rocks on the beach looking for seafood. The bear was occupied and didn't even notice us between the noise and his efforts.
