Field Notes

Description:

Approximately 250 Harbor seals reside on Snake Island, near Nanaimo, BC

Habitat:

Small, pebbled rock island in Straight of Georgia (Pacific Ocean) near inhabited city on Vancouver Island.

Notes:

Several nasty red jellyfish in the surrounding waters and on the island, but the seals would crawl right over them. Very curious of us humans (we were snorkeling), but most kept their distance, preferring to go in the water and watch us where they could make a quick escape.
