Field Notes

Description:

Juvenile crested macaque. Tailless species from North Sulawesi. Slender build. semi-arboreal/terrestrial.

Habitat:

Thick forest in coastal areas of North Sulawesi.

Notes:

The most well known of three black macaque species on Sulawesi. Live in troops of five to twenty five. Adult females outnumber adult males by about 4/1. Males are dominant.
