Field Notes

Description:

Miniature version of a white tail deer. Actually the same species, just adapted to live in the Florida Keys. Small size helps to forage in the low brush and scrub.

Habitat:

Florida Keys, mostly Big Pine Key, No Name Key, Big and Little Torch Key, Upper Sugarloaf, Munson Key and small surrounding islands.

Notes:

It is illegal to feed these deer. They are not afraid of people and are very susceptible to death by car. Especially because tourist feed them from their cars.
