Field Notes
Description:
Coreidae; Coreinae; Homoeocerini; Homoeocerus puncticornis (Burmeister, 1834). "Homoeocerus is a genus of leaf-footed bug in the family Coreidae. There are more than 120 described species in Homoeocerus, found in south and east Asia, and Sub-Saharan Africa." Wikipedia. I originally misidentified this one as H. marginellus, but I was kindly helped out by Arne Roysland who pointed out the identifying features which showed it to be Homoeocerus puncticornis.
Habitat:
Spotted in the rice field behind our house. This field was not planted this season, in order to let the soil "rest". When the rains arrive, a mass of grasses and foliage springs up, creating a kind of "tropical meadow".
