Field Notes

Description:

slender grass-like leaves, several buds per stalk, blooming one at a time.

Habitat:

Among rhododendron and salal at the edge of woods of pine and Sitka spruce.

Notes:

This one was growing in Port Orford and was transplanted to my yard. They are darker purple north of Pt Orford. The fibers of the leaves can be used to make very strong cordage or thread.
