Field Notes

Description:

A new species of Goat Moth for me, all black furry body and legs, black and white wings with a complex pattern like shingles and a very hairy white thorax. About 2 cm long. Family Cossidae, Subfamily Zeuzerinae? It looks Cossid-like even though the abdomen is not very long. It looks similar to this african species, the Inclusive Goat Moth or Leopard Goat Moth, Azygophleps inclusa (http://sagr.co.za/forum/viewtopic.php?f=247&t=3184&start=100).

Habitat:

Came to an ultraviolet light set up along the highway on a cliff between San Cristobal de Las Casas and Tuxtla Gutierrez, km 18.5, 1164 meters elevation.
