Description:

Tall tree, has spirally arranged leaves at the top of its trunk. Its stem is scarred with the vestiges of the past fruit, giving it a distinct notched appearance.

Habitat:

Tropical rainforest, native to the American tropics.

Notes:

The papaya was the first fruit tree to have its genome sequenced.
