there is a better way. it's important to keep your distance if you don't know what you're doing, and to use a good pair of snake tongs for handling any venomous snakes.

I've been there too many times to count. I try to have one with me wherever I go now.

Nice spotting and pictures. I was on a Spring Break in TX in 2006 helping another grad student collect cottonmouths for his genetics study, and I saw just one coral snake and of course, was without my camera. :(
