Aotus vociferans
-2.74, -77.19
Field Notes
Description:
Simply called the "Night Monkey" in many areas, this medium small monkey is a beautiful rich brown over most of the body. The top of the head, the feet and most of the tail are black. It has a white chin and white around the eyes, which are very large.
Habitat:
These monkeys are common but rarely seen in the Amazon rainforest of SE Ecuador and most of the NW Amazon jungle. This one had the free run of the village, coming and going at will. They are normally found in small family groups foraging through the trees for fruit and insects.
Notes:
The Night Monkeys, with there large eyes and timid ways are really cool to watch when the opportunity presents itself. There is a downloadable pdf that is an excellent guide to the primates of Ecuador. The link is to the right in the Reference box.
