Field Notes

Description:

This was a large clam with a dark shell.

Habitat:

It was on a sandy and gravelly beach with driftwood on the river.

Notes:

I think this clam was in a part of the river low enough to be affected by the tide. I am not sure about ID though so any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks for the help! I did some research and it looks like Corbicula manilensis is no longer a valid scientific name. The asiatic clam can be either Corbicula fluminea or Corbicula fluminalis. I chose fluminalis because it matches my specimen better.
Also the shape is more Clam than Mussel. Looks like the evasive Asiatic Clam (Corbicula manilensis)
If you your map is correct than this is a freshwater clam not a mussel.
