I'm fairly sure they're native in your neck of the woods. Now that you know what they are you'll probably see them everywhere
I wonder if someone released them into the lake, I have never seen one before.

That's a gar buddy, a spotted gar from the look of it. An easy mistake to make until you know what to look for.
