Field Notes

Description:

Bark-like camouflage, black and white spots toward the rear, striped antennae

Habitat:

This stink bug came out from underneath a planter I was moving that had bamboo in it.

Notes:

I had never seen a stink bug in flight before, but it flew at me and landed on my shirt.

I agree, looks like the marmorated to me. I just found one last week, and was going through my summer pictures and found another. It's a shame they're invasive, they're quite pretty up close.
They are everywhere here in rural Maryland, since probably the past 3 years. I have friends and relatives that have been driven crazy by their numbers.
This looks very much like the brown marmorated stink bug which is a horrible invasive pest that attacks food crops. Cornell University is monitoring the spread of this pest: http://blogs.cornell.edu/hort/2011/03/25/watch-out-for-brown-marmorated-stink-bugs/
Thanks Carolina! I'll look into it. I just purchased a new insect field guide so I'm going to do some more investigating later :)
Maybe a Brown marmorated stink bug? They are native to China, but they were accidentally introduced into US. I have only seen two stink bugs in my life, the first one I killed it, and ugh it was a really bad move. The second one I just knew what to do haha.
