Description:
Beautiful group of mushrooms with convex pilei and smooth, deep orange to cream tones growing from the base of a rotting willow oak stump. On first glance, they look like freshly baked dinner rolls! The gill surface is white, crowded and narrowly attached to the stipe. The stipe is white at its apex and transitions to deep orange at its base. The base is quite hirsute (hairy). Spore print is dark purple with brown hints. The diameter of the cluster was around 35 cm.
Hypholoma is a genus within the Strophariaceae family of fungi and are usually found growing on dead wood.
Habitat:
Growing in a large cluster at the base of a rotting willow oak stump in Northwest Georgia, Gordon County, US.
