Short-horned Walkingstick
Parabacillus sp.
33.0036, -116.914
Field Notes
Description:
Long, slender insect that mimics a stick about 2 inches long. It has short antenna which gives it it's common name. The legs are also long and slender. It swayed back and forth on the plant in the breeze. The end of the tail is forked.
Habitat:
Originally on my front door surrounded by chaparral and oak woodland. I placed it on the White Sage for photos then placed it on a woody bush where it seamlessly blended in to where I couldn't find it again after looking away. This genus is found in the western half of the US and into Mexico.
