Description:

In contrast to its relative Orange Birch Bolete https://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/854403450, this mushroom has a symbiotic relationship with pine and also blue berry shrubs. The deep reddish cap and the dark squamules on the stipe are important characteristics of this bolete.

Forest.

Thanks John B, there is always a little truth in all the old fairy tales.
My immediate impression when I first looked at this mushroom was that it looks just like the illustrations in childrens' story books. I can imagine fairies dancing around it. Now I know that all that stuff was really true! :-)
