Description:

One of the smallest members of the heron family the little birttern is only about 9-14 inches long. They have a breeding range from Europe and Asia through Africa. Birds from Europe and the more temperate [arts of asia are migratory, whereas the populations breeding in the tropics are not

The female has brown wings and the juvenile is striped/speckled
