Description:

This species has an extremely large range and their population trend appears to be increasing, so they are listed as Least Concern.

Habitat:

The Southern Caracara occurs from Tierra del Fuego in southernmost South America north to the Amazon River region and southern Peru, avoiding the Andean highlands and dense humid forest, such as the Amazon rainforest.

Photographed at the Barranquilla zoo.

Great shot! I could never get a good picture of a Caracara on the Ucayali river.
This one is a zoo animal, so sometimes is easier to photograph them. I once saw a Caracara flying, and believe me, I couldn't catch it. In fact now that I remember I haven't photographed any bird flying, its really hard!
