Field Notes

Description:

Mockingbirds are slender gray-brown songbirds with a pale breast and belly. They have two white wing bars and a white patch on each wing. They raise their wings in jerky movements while sitting. The long tail has white outer feathers that flash when flying. They sing continuously mimicking songs of other birds. Males learn up to 200 new songs throughout their life.

Habitat:

Swooping from the top of the trees in the center park to defend its territory from an intruding roadrunner.
