Field Notes

Description:

Large, black hairless abdomen, yellow pile on thorax. It is often mistaken for a large bumblebee species, as they are similar in size and coloring, but bumble bees are fuzzy all over.

Habitat:

Common in eastern North America, and the only member of its genus in much of range. Forests and adjacent areas with flowers.

Notes:

I can't tell from this picture if it was male or female as I can't see if the face is white.
