Field Notes

Description:

Vagrant, Rare to California<br>
Winter plumage.
Overall yellowish color, with two dark stripes on crown. Line behind eye, pinkish bill and light colored throat. Streaks on flanks and back. Two dark stripes in middle of back below the neck with light color in center. Back of head is unmarked and has a fluffy look.

Habitat:

Spotted feeding in fennel and Pampas grass.

Yes, we have been getting many sightings of rare birds. Someone told me because of climate changes they are getting confused and head in the wrong direction. When they fly west some they fly into the ocean. Even the Farallones Islands off our coast has some birds that shouldn't be there. Our most famous ones is Tufted Duck that returns every year. And Northern Gannet that has been here for the past few years now made it's rousting spot on Alcatraz island.
