What about this one? Same family it seems to me. http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/6814389
You should put up a spotting of the best Philippine fighting spider.
sometimes, other species of spiders were sold outside our elementary schools to be played with.. kinda sad, but well yeah.. the fun of being kids.. but these batman spiders were kinda boring, rather slow.. there's a best species for fighting though.. don't know what it's called though..
Wow, I knew they had cock fighting in Philippines, but spiny orb weaver fights too? Thats new to me!
yeah we put it in match boxes and prepare them for a fight.. we put cotton balls to serve as their cushion/bed hehe..
oh my we have lots of those in cacao trees! my friends and I called it 'Batman'
These are also sometimes referred to as 'kite spiders'. Yeah I think it might take more digging to narrow it down exactly. :)
I think you're right, thanks ReannaDee and Gina.
It's definitely a Gasteracantha, I'm leaning towards G. fornicata, but apparently that is only found in Queensland, Australia.
Gasteracantha geminata looks more like yours. http://fiveprime.org/hivemind/Tags/gasteracantha http://www.flickr.com/photos/60238880@N00/2989806056
This isn't an exact match but might help lead you somewhere. http://www.richard-seaman.com/Travel/Thailand/Wildlife/index.html#GasteracanthaFornicata Really awesome looking spider though!
try this GasteracanthaArcuata.
I've added another photo to this spotting, hoping someone can ID it.
