Field Notes

Description:

Small grayish ground-dwelling squirrel ~ 10 inches long overall with left and right longitudinal black bordered white stripes extending from each shoulder to the hip on the same side, a white belly and "golden" head.

Habitat:

Pacific Northwest montane coniferous forest.

Notes:

Spotted scampering along the ground near the interpretive trail at the Devastated Area in Lassen Volcanic National Park. Managed to capture the uploaded image when it stopped on a rock.
