Project Noah Fact of the Day: Lanternfies were so named because early scientists, including the founder of modern taxonomy Carl Linneus, erroneously believed that their inflated snouts, the so-called lanterns, lit up at night. Lanternflies (Pyrops candelaria) spotted in Laos by PN user FlorianMeier. https://www.facebook.com/projectnoah/photos/a.10150595289465603.674700.10150120463815603/10156746185120603/?type=3&theater
