Field Notes

Habitat:

This Common Bush Brown was spotted resting in a rice field.

Notes:

Mycalesis perseus caesonia (Nymphalidae; Satyrinae) This is the subspecies, present in the Philippines, and is seen here in its wet season form. It was spotted this morning at 8:00 a.m. in a rice field, perhaps sheltering from the early morning sunshine. Wikipedia says that the Satyrinae "often shun bright sunlight, preferring moist and semishaded habitats" and the tall rice grasses provide exactly that..
