Field Notes

Description:

Small beetle with black elytra (wing covers), a metallic red protonum ("neck" area) and a black head. Larvae produce galls on raspberry/blackberry plants as well as a couple of others. The area where this beetle was seen has a lot of wild blackberry plants.

Habitat:

Vegetation bordering temperate forest. Gardiner County Park, NY.
