Description:
Seal salamanders are a lungless salamander and possess slits extending below each nostril. They also have a laterally compressed tail that gives the tail a fin-like appearance. Seal salamanders are extremely variable in color and can have a similar appearance to dusky salamanders; however seal salamanders have plain bellies while dusky salamanders have speckled bellies.
Habitat:
Keeney Creek - a small creek with rocky bottom in a forested, mountainous area.
Notes:
This individual was briefly held in a clear plastic container to allow for observation of the belly color and pattern, and was released back into the creek at the site of capture.
