Field Notes

Description:

This is a tall, long legged, and long necked bird and is mostly grey. The top of the head is red, which is actually red skin, and the cheek is a bright white.
It is 4 to 5 feet tall, its wingspan can get to 5 to 6 feet, and is about 10 to 14 pounds.

Habitat:

Sandhill cranes' habitat can be marshes, grain fields, and wet grasslands.

Notes:

I saw these cranes at about nine o'clock in the morning flying towards the south.
