Description:

A very unusual looking fly (Order: Diptera), larger than a housefly with nearly black eyes, a brown face, and a robust hairy black body.

Habitat:

Rural SW Pennsylvania

Thanks. I am happy to know what this bugger is. It is one of my personal favorites.
I'm not 100% sure down to species, but I do think it is a Pararchytas sp. The decisus is the only one pictured in bugguide.net, though none in PA but in many surrounding states.
