Field Notes

Description:

Right jaw bone from a decomposed owl pellet

Habitat:

Under Australian pines trees around a lake (Wolf Lake park)

Notes:

Very happy to of found evidence of a native rat, their numbers have been jeopardized for a long time with the introduction of Rattus rats and house cats, but the pythons in the Everglades have been taking huge hits at them lately. Found evidence of cotton rats in two different non-Everglades parks (the second might be a bit too gore-y for Project Noah), so I'm happy to know that should the python situation irreparably damage their populations in the Glades, our more urban parks can support them too.
