Field Notes

Description:

This young mushroom had a reddish brown cap with pale fibrils covering most of the cap. Gills and stipe were a pale brown as was the partial veil (cortina) which can be seen in two sections - some of it still covering some of the gills (pics 2 ) and a part that has been torn-off and attached to the stipe as an annulus (pic 3). The annulus had a striated appearance. base of the stipe was slightly bulbous. Pic 5 shows a couple of mature caps nearby.

Habitat:

Spotted at the base of a giant gum in sodden dirt.

Notes:

A previous spotting shows mature fungi
