Field Notes

Description:

He was a fuzzy little thing, and very quick. He had a pale brown/white line going along his back and was either dark brown or black, possibly with stripes. I don’t have the best eyes, so I couldn’t tell.

Habitat:

I found him on the concrete near my front wall. My dog must’ve knocked him off of the bricks. I found another one like him in the live oak leaves on the ground, so he might’ve been looking to cocoon, as I don’t have trees near that part of the wall.

Species ID Suggestions

eastern tent caterpillar

Malacosoma americanum
