This looks like a round-lobed Hepatica I found: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/7332156.
This appears to be one of the hepaticas. There are at least two types of hepatica: round-lobed and sharp-lobed. The leaves of this plant at this time of year may be reddish/greenish so they may look dead and will be laying on the forest floor. If you have a chance, rake your fingers gently through the vegetation under the ferns and you may find the leaves. The leaves are three lobed, like a liver hence its name.
