beach pea
44.0418, -69.0986
Field Notes
Description:
This creeping legume is common in sandy spots along the Maine coast. It has a pretty pink blossom in a variety of shades and the seed pod looks like a small, flat snow pea.
Habitat:
Dunes and high beach sand along the Atlantic coast in Midcoast Maine.
Notes:
Apparently it's edible, but the seeds can cause a strange nervous-system disorder if you eat too many, so I wouldn't advise it...
