Aldabra giant tortoise on Changuu Island, Zanzibar
Habitat:
Grassland, low scrub, mangroves
Notes:
Originally from the Aldabra Atoll in the Seychelles, this is one of the largest tortoises in the world. The average male is about 250 kg, with a carapace 120 cm in length. This isolated population was introduced to Zanzibar (Changuu Island) at the beginning of the 20th century. According to a local ranger this individual is about 100 years old.
