Field Notes

Description:

Red peeling bark (a bit like paper birch) with bright green bark underneath. The leaves were not out yet.

Habitat:

Dry, rocky hillside with some cactus, bushes and short trees. There were lots of these trees mixed in with the other plants.

I'm thinking Gumbo Limbo. Often called Tourist Tree because of it's peeling bark. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bursera_simaruba
