Description:
Small and most common in India; thickset; bill - tip is black, yellow in centre and bluish base; dull green legs; dark brown saddle, white wings, tail and rump
In breeding season, buffy-brown head and neck; white chin and throat, longish crest, rich maroon back, buffy-brown breast.
Non-breeding, streaked dark brown head and neck, grey-brown back and shoulder
Sexes are alike
