Description:
5-7cm long brown mantis nymph with an upward curved abdomen and bowed leg segments. It's antennae are relatively short and have a "horn" in between them, hence the name unicorn mantis.
Habitat:
Basil plants in my garden.
Notes:
There seem to be 2 species of Phyllovates in Costa Rica, both very similar. From what I can tell by an article in the Aug 2012 UK Mantis Forums Newsletter, http://www.ukmantisforums.co.uk/newsletters/Aug2012.pdf , Phyllovates cornuta is larger than Phyllovates chlorophaea with the relative length of the upper arm segment compared to the segement of the body between the arms and front legs being different.
