Field Notes

Description:

A small terrestrial orchid with grass-like leaves and yellow flowers with red-brown blotches. Diuris are sometimes called moth or donkey orchids, because of the two wing/ear like petals.

The second image shows a Tiger orchid with a number of Waxlip orchids (Glossodia major).

Habitat:

Dry sclerophyll bushland.

We love our little orchids. The Tiger orchids are the most elusive. We've only spotted a few of them in only two separate years out of the seven we've lived here.
How much beauty in such a small flower.
