Field Notes

Description:

Seen at the OChlockonee River State Park, Florida USA, in the campsite area. These curious white versions of the Eastern Grey Squirrel were all around the area. I believe they may be genetically double recessive non-extension (e e) versions of the typical full extension (E _) grey color seen in Grey Squirrels. The eyes reflect a ruby cast in the camera flash, another hint that this might be non-extension.

Habitat:

Sandy riverine area, with Live Oak trees and Saw Palmetto. OChlockonee River State Park.

Notes:

Typical campsite squirrels looking for hand outs. It is possible that this mutation survives because of the reduced pressure from predation that the camping area may provide.

That's amazing it's all white but not albino i wonder why. really cool photo
I've seen these in Juniper Springs in the Ocala National Forest. And, Dan, they are at least fearless, if not evil.
I've never seen a white squirrel before, looks kind of evil!
