Field Notes

Description:

Myrmaplata plataleoides is a red jumping spider that mimics the Asian weaver ant (Oecophylla smaragdina) I already made a spotting of the ant https://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/1324480171
You can spot the false eyespots on top of the head, the real eyes are on front. Also, they have 8 legs compared to a 6 legged ant and they JUMP!

Habitat:

Found with the nest on the leaf of a Croton plant. This species is found in India, Sri Lanka, China, and many parts of Southeast Asia.

Notes:

This particular specimen is a female, with its obvious nest. It was situated near a colony of ants and they don't bother the spider at all.
