Field Notes

Description:

Unfortunately the common name in Barbados for many things is not common anywhere else!

Notes:

Flower Forest Barbados
Located in the heart of St. Joseph is the Flower Forest. This 50 acre attraction offers an explosion of greenery and commanding vistas of the island's stunning Scotland District. Imagine yourself walking on a winding path through a forest created by nature but gently nudged by man. A jungle? Not quite. The humidity and smell of damp soil rises up and takes you into a world of wonder as you turn a corner to see a spectacular cluster of Heliconia (some varieties are referred to as bird of paradise). Brilliant in color against a green backdrop and a waxy, almost plastic feel to them, they never fail to impress. Just around the next corner are begonias, three feet high with leaves the size of your hand. The variety of plants and species along with the infinite shades of green interspersed by colors that only nature can produce, make it a difficult job to choose what to look at first. The plants towering above you could be the very same plants you may have in your home

Species ID Suggestions

Comments (1)

Hi Katarina, I've ticked the box that says "help me ID this spotting" and blanked the scientific name (removed "Christmas worm & the Snail sharing the same home") because by filling anything in Scientific name tricks the software into regarding the spotting as identified. With this blank, it is marked as not identified enabling the community to try & identify it for you. Please create a separate spotting for the millipede in the arthropod category as each species requires it's own spotting. Thanks!
