Field Notes

Habitat:

This Flea Beetle was spotted, in a rice field on unidentified foliage growing on the turf dyke which runs through the middle of the field. After my second picture, it flew into the crop and started crawling around on the ears of the rice.

Notes:

Chrysomelidae; Galerucinae; Alticini. This blue/black beetle appears to belong to the tribe Alticini. The eleven segmented antennae, the enlarged femora of the hind legs and the glossy dorsal surfaces are what led me to this conclusion. However, there are so many beetles of this type (which all look very similar) that I can't decide on a species with any conviction.
