Field Notes

Description:

The Friar is a butterfly of the Nymphalidae family. It is found in the forests of tropical Africa. The wingspan is 80-85 mm for males and 78-82 for females. Adults are on wing year round (with peaks in late summer and autumn). Loves shade.

Habitat:

Coastal forest. Spotted in the Jozani National Park, Zanzibar.

www.keaz33, the genus Morpho is only found in the Americas. This spotting is in Africa.
You're right Dan, I certainly can't make sense of this one. Except maybe that is also comes in a black and white morph? Another thing tor research ;-)
