Field Notes
Description:
From the patio of the Ngulia safari lodge in Kenya, my wife and I watched barn swallows swooping and darting while these large and heavy-billed storks stood around below them. At one point a swallow swooped too close, and with a loud clap, the stork snapped its bill shut on the passing bird and swallowed it in a single gulp.
When we returned at dusk after a drive in the rhino reserve, the storks were all standing atop a large tree.
Habitat:
Ngulia Safari Lodge is located in Tsavo West National Park situated atop the edge of the Ndewe Escarpment. It overlooks a black rhino reserve.
