Description:
Inch-long, shiny black. Long thick antennae, segments conical; overlapping in male, cylindrical in female. Nocturnal, but this was shot in mid-day on deck. "It's the largest North American long-horned beetle, rivaling in weight the Rhinoceros Scarab." (Audubon Society Field Guide to North American Insects and Spiders)
