Field Notes

Description:

large frog

Habitat:

rainforest

Notes:

I spotted this on a night walk in the forest 8km from Wowetta village. My guide and I spotted its eyeshine from a distance. Thinking it was a small mammal, I approached it slowly, not wanting to scare it away. As I got closer, it didn't move, which I thought was strange and then I finally got close enough to see it was a big frog.

I could see that. Its eyes are huge! I spotted them from far away with my flashlight.
In the right light, it's got eyes like pumpkins.
