Black flat-head leafhopper
Stenocotis depressa
-37.8919, 145.313
Field Notes
Description:
Approximately 18mm long.
Moving in short bursts.
Habitat:
In a local national park in heavily wooded forest and within the grooves of a very rough barked endemic Eucalyptus tree.
Notes:
Common name is a mystery especially as this specimen was paler around the head than most other places.
I haven't seen this species before. Camouflage was very impressive and the animal was only noticed when it made a short dash to the next crevice.
If I have the correct ID then this one is also found in Hong Kong and the Philippines which begs the question of host plant species or was it inadvertently introduced there.
https://bie.ala.org.au/species/urn:lsid:biodiversity.org.au:afd.taxon:a…
