Thanks Craig. That's my bad, should have looked at the family. Me too about the next trip. My first visit to Africa in 5 years, so it should be a good one!
Gorgeous Dan! Came to this while researching a possible Hypopyra spotting here in Singapore. Better change the common name to Noctuid though, it's Noctuidae not Geometridae. Hope your next set of travels yields as many wonders!
Thanks Mike for the ID, not too many images of this online but it matches the one. Thanks for the comment Dangermouse, sorry for missing this one.
Whatever it is, it's a beautiful specimen! Nice spotting.
That's it for sure in your last link, but they don't know what it is either!
Here it is... http://blog.mongabay.com/tag/madagascar/page/2/
Isn't following very close..? http://www.flickr.com/photos/theoprado/4048429806/
I want tell a direction to find specie..
I don't think it's emperor moth. It doesn't have the large eye spots.
Thanks lori.tas. any idea on a more specific ID?
Gorgeous. The antennae look slender, so I'm guessing it's the female of the species.
Thanks. I think you are right. I looked at some photos of Geometer moths and some of them look close to this one. It will be tough to narrow it down to family and species though, I think, but this is a start!
Cryptic Geometrid comes close in my book, but it may have a different name there in Madagascar.
