Description:

Identified correctly now I hope. I took a new picture yesterday, hoping I can keep going back until it fully blooms.

Habitat:

Spotted in an overgrowth along my hiking trail.

It's thistle. We have plenty of them here in Tennessee. The blooms are pink/purple as I remember. They have a tap root and grow very fast. Pretty but a pain.
I'd guess thistle, too. Looks all sorts of pokey.
